The Band Members

Indy
Band Manager

Inderjit Singh or Indy as he is fondly known, is a self taught Indian Classical Vocalist, harmonium and Tabla player. He honed his skills on the harmonium, Tabla and vocals by performing all over the country in Sikh Temples and gradually grew from religious hymns to stage performances. He is also a very active member of the Sikh community, where he is heavily involved in youth activities.

Indy plays the harmonium and light percussions, gives backing vocals, and also doubles up as the no-nonsense manager of the Diplomats of Drum.

One of the founding members of the band, Ravinderjit Singh’s musical journey began when he picked up the Dhol and started irritating his neighbours! Soon, he began setting stages on fire with his showmanship and crazy rhythms, culminating with an appearance at the Rainforest World Music Festival in 2006.

But just playing Bhangra rhythms alone was not enough and being a person of inquisitive nature, and armed with an undying passion for rhythms and percussions, Rav started picking up other instruments like the Didgeridoo, Djembe, Cajon, and Sitar, leading him to master the art of playing the didgeridoo, and making a name for himself as a Didgeridoo player with undying passion for creativity and experimentation. This gave him an idea to blend the musical properties of these sorts of instruments, hence the birth of the Diplomats.

He has performed and recorded with many local and international artists and DJ’s, amongst whom are Funk Service International from Sweden, DJ Seto from Barcelona and the world famous Steve Lawler. Rav, who is also the Artistic Director and band leader, plays most of the Latin and African percussions, Sitar, Dhol, Berimbau and Didgeridoo in the band.

Harvey

Harvinder Singh was exposed to rock, blues and grunge music of the Seattle musicians in his early years and stated playing the guitar at the age of 12. As the years progressed, he mastered the acoustic guitar and looked for a new challenge, but the love of this stringed instrument was deep, and he switched to the Bass Guitar, making it his main instrument. Harvey is a much sought after bassist in the local music industry and regularly sessions and records in both the jazz and underground music scenes.

Among the bands he has worked with are local punk rock outfit One Buck Short and funk band Cosmic Funk Express. He also featured on the International College of Music’s “Tribute to The Beatles” CD. Harvey, another one of the founding members, doubles up as the Musical Director and plays the Bass, Acoustic Guitar, and light percussions.
