One of the founding members of the band, Ravinderjit Singh’s musical journey began when he picked up the Dhol and started irritating his neighbours! Soon, he began setting stages on fire with his showmanship and crazy rhythms, culminating with an appearance at the Rainforest World Music Festival in 2006.
But just playing Bhangra rhythms alone was not enough and being a person of inquisitive nature, and armed with an undying passion for rhythms and percussions, Rav started picking up other instruments like the Didgeridoo, Djembe, Cajon, and Sitar, leading him to master the art of playing the didgeridoo, and making a name for himself as a Didgeridoo player with undying passion for creativity and experimentation. This gave him an idea to blend the musical properties of these sorts of instruments, hence the birth of the Diplomats.
He has performed and recorded with many local and international artists and DJ’s, amongst whom are Funk Service International from Sweden, DJ Seto from Barcelona and the world famous Steve Lawler. Rav, who is also the Artistic Director and band leader, plays most of the Latin and African percussions, Sitar, Dhol, Berimbau and Didgeridoo in the band. |
